Discovering the Forgotten Coast: Florida’s Hidden Gem
Have you ever heard of the Forgotten Coast? Tucked away in the Florida Panhandle, this stretch of coastline is a world apart from the bustling tourist hubs like Destin and Panama City Beach. About an hour’s drive from PCB, the Forgotten Coast is home to charming towns like Apalachicola and St. George Island, offering a slower pace and a refreshing escape from high-rise condos and crowded beaches.
If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path destination, here’s why the Forgotten Coast should be on your travel list:
Highlights of Our Trip
Staying Local
We made our home base the historic Gibson Inn in Apalachicola, a cozy spot that felt like stepping back in time. One of our favorite parts of staying here was renting a golf cart to explore the town, cruising past quaint streets and soaking in the laid-back vibe.
Dining Delights
The food scene on the Forgotten Coast is as inviting as its scenery. In Apalachicola, we dined at the Owl Café, where the fresh seafood and Southern-inspired dishes didn’t disappoint. On St. George Island, BJ’s Pizza and Subs served up casual and delicious fare, while Blue Parrot Oceanside Café offered drinks with unbeatable ocean views.
Exploring Nature
For outdoor lovers, the St. George Island State Park is a must-visit. We spent hours driving through the park, marveling at its untouched beauty, and walking along its quiet, pristine beaches. The area’s tranquility and natural charm were the perfect antidote to the hustle of everyday life.
Ready to discover the Forgotten Coast for yourself? Whether it’s for the food, the beaches, or the unhurried atmosphere, we can’t recommend it enough. Let us know in the comments: Have you ever been to the Forgotten Coast, or is it on your travel radar?
