We stayed in a Gulf Front View room with a king bed, and the private balcony alone was worth the upgrade.

It became our favorite spot on the entire property — morning coffee as the light came up over the Gulf, evenings winding down as the sky turned. If you're considering the room type, the balcony is the reason to book it. Some moments on vacation are hard to plan for. This one isn't.

For those who prefer not to venture far — and at a resort like this, there's no reason you'd have to — the dining options are genuinely impressive in their range.

From casual coffee and snacks to sushi, a signature steakhouse, and an adults-only dining experience at Tesoro, the property covers every occasion and mood. Our personal favorite was Kane Tiki Bar & Grill, both for the food and the atmosphere. Eating directly on the beach with your toes in the sand, drink in hand, is one of those simple vacation pleasures that never gets old. Time it right and you might catch the fire dancing show at sunset — a bonus that turns dinner into an event.

The Beach and Pools: The Heart of the Stay

The beach at the JW Marriott is the real centerpiece, and the resort treats it that way.

Full drink service is available directly on the sand, and each room comes with two reserved chairs — a detail that sounds small until you've experienced the difference between a reserved spot and hunting for one. The pools are heated and remain comfortable even as evenings cool down, which extends the day in a way that feels like a gift.

Between the beach, the pools, and the overall unhurried energy of the property, it's genuinely easy to fill a full day without ever leaving the resort grounds.

Beyond the Resort: History and Nature Nearby

Marco Island itself adds another layer that most beach destinations can't offer.

The island was long home to the Calusa people, an Indigenous society who built villages from shell and wood — and whose presence is still felt in the land today. The Marco Island Historical Museum brings this history to life, including the Key Marco Cat, a Calusa wooden carving on loan from the Smithsonian and considered one of the most significant Indigenous artworks in North America. It's on display through April 2026.

A short drive away, Otter Mound Preserve offers a quieter, more personal connection to the island's past — trails built atop ancient shell mounds that invite you to slow down even further.

And then, of course, there are the sunsets. Marco Island is known for some of the best on the Gulf Coast, and the view from the resort — or from the shore with a drink from Kane — is exactly as good as advertised.
